Writtle: Your accommodation options explained

We're delighted to have a new start and finish point for London Edinburgh London 2025. Writtle College, a handsome university campus outside Chelmsford, is an ideal base for us. Set in landscaped grounds, the college offers us plenty of space for registration, the start and finish, as well as space for social events before we all ride to Edinburgh.

Best of all though, we are able to provide many of you with accommodation at or near the start. Ragning from a blow-up bed in a marquee are to an en-suite double bedroom, there are a whopping EIGHT different types of accommodation at the start. So here is our guide to what's available and how to secure your spot.

Room in halls of residence

We have 330 rooms available for you to rent, available from Friday 1 August at midday until Saturday 9 August at midday. There are four different types of room available:

  • Single - shared bathroom £299
  • Single - en suite £369
  • Double - shared bathroom £369
  • Double - en suite £439

Every room in the halls of residence includes access to a communal living space, like the one pictured below, that you'll share with between 5 and 10 fellow riders.

How to book a room

To book one of these rooms, you'll need to enter the ballot in the rider area of our website. You will have until the end of February to bid for a room, after which we'll draw all of the lucky riders and invite them to pay for their room.

Note that due to building works happening while London Edinburgh London is taking place, we have had to relocate 60 of the rooms in Chelmsford city centre. We'll make it clear when we offer you a room whether it is on the campus or in Chelmsford.

We will have 200 pitches available on site if you wish to camp.

  • Camping pitch £139
